24 HOURS IN BANGKOK

14th - 15th May 2019

14/05/19

We were really lucky to have such a smooth journey on the overnight bus where both Megan and I managed to get some sleep. A lot more sleep than I had thought I would get, which was definitely a perk! So we saved on a nights accommodation by getting the overnight bus - what an experience!

By 8:30am we had arrived in Bangkok and got to our hostel called Bed Station. Situated near Khao San road in central Bangkok, the hostel was tucked into one of the little streets.

As we weren’t allowed to check in until 2pm, but they kindly let us shower, we had some breakfast and then headed out into the bustling city of Bangkok.

Deciding that we needed to do something cultural for once in Thailand, we visited two temples.

The first temple was Wot Pho, also known as ‘The Temple of the Reclining Buddha’. Located near the palace in central Bangkok. No joke, this temple had a humongous reclining Buddha that was built at a ridiculous scale!

The surroundings were absolutely beautiful and everything was so colourful. There is something utterly beautiful about Buddhism - it was very tranquil in the temple.

New yoga pose Mum?

Afterwards we got on the local ferry across the river to visit another temple, much smaller, on the riverfront. Again, it had beautiful architecture, so unlike anything we would ever see in the UK. It was at this temple that I realised I was wearing an outfit similar to the monks, haha! But it was too late by this point!

Treating ourselves, we took a tuk-tuk back to Khoa San road which was actually one of the best experiences of the day!

We spent the afternoon walking around the markets, looking at all the tacky souvenirs, T-shirt’s, bags... everything! We made a few small purchases then headed back to our hostel for a few hours to relax.

Early evening we headed out again and met two guys that we’d met in NZ and then met again in Malaysia. After having the most delicious spicy tofu curry we again explored the markets and cringed as one of the guys bartered brutally with the owners at the stalls. Have to admit that he got some good deals though! It was a fun night and farewell to one of the guys that was heading back to the UK the following day!

After a lovely sleep in our comfy beds with curtains (best part) in the hostel, we again packed our belongings - being on the go has become second nature now. When we were ready we had some breakfast and then headed to the airport. Chiang Mai here we come!!!!!!!
