AJ HACKETT NEVIS SWING, QUEENSTOWN

1st March 2019

Wow, what a day! We decided to face our fears and endure the Nevis Swing. It is a 300 metre arc canyon swing (the biggest in the world) where you're dropped off a platform and plummeted into the canyon, located 45 minutes from Queenstown. During the swing you freefall for 70 metres before swinging the 300 metre arc.

It’s one thing thinking about doing something like this, it’s another when you’re standing on the platform in line watching everyone else being dropped down, knowing that in a couple of minutes it’ll be you.

As you can imagine, walking along this bridge onto the platform that you know you’re goung to fall off is not the most comforting thing. However, having gone out the night before I think the leftover drinks still in the system calmed our nerves!

So there we were, strapped in and hanging over the side of the platform...

The guy at the top asked us how we wanted to be dropped... and so we decided a surprise... which really was a surprise when you suddenly feel yourself rapidly freefalling towards the ground (haha)!

It was such a crazy experience that is suddenly over in a second! As you can see from the photos above we fell for a good while (70 metres) before the swing caught us and we swung across the canyon. Some of the most amazing scenery!

We also got a free hat haha...

Well done us!
