GILI TRAWANGAN
5th - 8th April 2019

05/04/19 - Day 7
We’re officially off to Gili T! Gili T is one of the three Gili Islands situated on the north west coast of Lombok, surrounded by beautiful reefs and marinelife! It is the furthest from Lombok itself and is known as the party island. The Gili Islands were all also effected by the earthquake that hit Lombok so it has taken a long time to even begin regenerating the islands! After driving from Ubud to Padang Bay and then taking the ferry across to Gili T we had finally arrived! Wooo! Well that’s what we thought until we then processed to walk half an hour in the sweltering heat with all our luggage to our accommodation which was located in the middle of the island. They use horse and carts of the island, however, I refuse to contribute to animal cruelty as the horses are treated really badly and therefore wasn’t lazy and carried my own bag!
Although I was disappointed by how far the accommodation was from the hustle and bustle of the main strip, it grew on me throughout the trip and bikes were available to ride 10 minutes or so to the bustle. The accommodation itself was really beautiful and the weather was perfect!
The whole group spent the afternoon in the pool, enjoying the bar and all it had to offer! We then went out in the evening and had our first stint of Gili T nightlife. We went to a bar called Jiggy’s where you pay 100K (£5) for unlimited drinks between 8-11pm. They had 5 bottles of spirits (2 vodka, 1 tequila, 1 rum and 1 gin) and all the bottles had to be finished before they replaced them. Therefore, vodka was always the first to go and everyone had to drink tequila and rum at the end before the vodka was replaced! What a great deal!
Such a fun night to start off our Gili T experience!
06/04/19 - Day 8
Funnily enough, the whole day was spent on a boat - not ideal for those feeling a bit worse for wear from the night before. And this was pretty much everyone haha!
We rode our bikes down to the port and caught our own private boat for the day which we all squeezed onto.
We exploded three different snorkelling sights, the first being a ring of 48 figures in various positions. It was truly beautiful to see such a unique sculpture sunk off of the shores of Gili Meno.
The second side was called Turtle Point and we immediately jumped off of the boat with our fins and marks to find as many turtles as we could. We had such beautiful weather all day, we were so lucky!
After a brief stop for lunch on Gili Air at a local restaurant, we proceeded to our final sight that had sunken mopeds. The water was pretty cloudy before I was allowed my picture haha, but you can pretty much see the rusty moped I'm sat on in the picture below!
When we arrived back on Gili T (as my birthday was looming the next day), Megan bought me a yummy little cupcake to celebrate!!! What a cutie!
We didn't have much time when we got back to the hotel before we went out to dinner and enjoyed yet another night out on the town!
07/04/19 - Day 9
Woooooo! The best day of the year! Happy Birthday to me!
As you can see from the photo above I started my birthday in style, surrounded by balloons! I also opened some lovely cards and prezzies that my Mum has sneakily left behind which was a lovely surprise to wake up to!
It was a very chilled day which was perfect as some people were still recovering from the night before...
Haha! We spent the day chilling by the pool, making the most of our lovely hotel for the last time. In the evening we headed to the west side of Gili T and watched the sunset - it was truly a great way to end the evening on such a beautiful island! Of course, we had a little photo shoot on the swings...
Later in the evening at the group meal I had to embarrassingly sit through everyone singing happy birthday to me and they brought out a slice of cake with a candle on it - actually so nice of them! What a great day!
