KOH LANTA

30th April - 2nd May 2019

30/04/19

Officially the last day of April! How has the time flown by so quickly?

We left Koh Phi Phi on an 11am ferry heading towards the beautiful island of Koh Lanta for some real relaxation. Our ferry definitely wasn’t as luxurious as the one previously from Krabi, but with an hour and a half journey it didn’t really matter.

We got a free van (curtsey of our hostel) which took us straight to the door step of where we were staying, another Blanco hostel. However, it’s crazy how different this one was from our previous one on Koh Phi Phi. We were in an 8 bed dorm with our own lights/plugs as well as two toilets and showers for the 8 of us. This was all in a cute little bungalow. 1000x better than our previous hostel - thank goodness!

It was very cute with its outdoor space, restaurant and hammocks...

We headed straight for the beach when we arrived which was only a 2 minute walk down the road. However, due to my shocking sense of direction we ended up going the wrong way... really messed that one up didn’t I! Needless to say, I’m now officially leaving directions to Megan!

Anyway, we found a cute little cafe right on the beach where I had delicious Tofu Penang curry whilst the local resident cat sat next to me. What a pleasant meal!

The beach was 2km long and stunning... it had a very fitting name, Long Beach...

Happy 1st May! Another day on Koh Lanta and this was a GREAT one! All you animal lovers out there will particularly like this segment!

We treked in the sweltering heat for half an hour (crazy I know) and ended up at an animal shelter called Lanta Animal Welfare. This was an organisation completely run by volunteers, mainly tourists that have visited, who help to get animals off of the streets and adopt them to families all over the world. The scheme provides free vaccinations, neutering/spading for cats and dogs in Koh Lanta to reduce the population of animals on the streets.

Here, we were lucky enough to walk some resident puppies that were in need of a run around! And they were gorgeous!!!!!

This one in particular was rather cheeky!

The also had a section called ‘Kitty City’ where we played, cuddled and spent time with the cats that had been rescued. Queue loads of really cute cat photos...

Their smallest kitten was particularly adorable...

Don't worry Phoebe and Joey, I still love you more!!

We had a tour around the centre, learning about how they have helped each animal and the sort of conditions they came in with. Some of the stories were really heartbreaking! But don’t worry, I won’t tell you them, this isn’t sad post!

This tour included going out the back to see all of the dogs!!

Both the dogs and cats in the centre have been adopted by people all over the world and still waiting to be flown out to meet their new families!

We managed to spend quite a few hours there before we completed the long trek back to our hostel in the heat...

We spent the evening playing cards in the restaurant area... we’ve got pretty good at our card games now!

We sadly only had a short period of time in Koh Lanta but it is somewhere I would definitely go back to and explore more!

Next stop: back to Krabi
