LOMBOK
8th - 11th April 2019

08/04/19 - Day 10
We left Gili T the following day, having to say goodbye to seven people in our group who weren't doing the whole Komodo tour. We endured the half an hour walk back down to the port with our backpacks. Some people decided to use a horse to get their bags down but again, I refused and carried my own.
The ferry to Lombok only took 30 minutes and then we continued to our hotel in Kuta, one of the popular tourist villages in the south of Lombok.
In 2018, Lombok suffered a 6.9 magnitude earthquake that killed about 100 people and left over 20,000 people homeless. Therefore the island has suffered a lot of loss and obtained a huge amount of damage.
The afternoon of arriving was chilled. We enjoyed time by the pool and later went out to dinner in the local town.
09/04/19 - Day 11
The day began by visiting Sasak Village, a traditional Indonesian village. One of the traditions within this village was that in order for a man and woman to marry, the man must successfully steal the woman from her home in the middle of the night without her parents knowing. If they found out the marriage would be unsuccessful. They are still following this tradition today.
The village is built around weaving, where girls as young as 4 learn to weave beautiful pieces of material.
We were taken on a tour around the grounds of the village...
During the tour around the village, Megan somehow (honestly who knows how she managed it), got a massive splinter in her thigh. Embedded so deep, we were unable to get it out haha!
We toured the rest of the village with Megan‘s piece of wood still embedded in her thigh haha! The locals at the village dressed us up in traditional clothing and we took some pretty great group shots!
After the village tour we had lunch and then headed to some beautiful waterfalls.
The first was Benag Stokel which was very beautiful...
But it didn’t nearly compare to the second one, Benang Kelamb which was truly something else! The photos speak for themselves... known as the curtain waterfall due to how the water falls...
10/04/19 - Day 12
Today was a very chilled out beach day. We began the day getting the chunk of wood from Megan’s leg out as we had no success!
Phew! One stitch later (haha) we decided to treat ourselves and headed out for breakfast. Dragonfruit has become one of my new favourite fruits!
We explored two beaches, sitting in the sun getting our tans on and enjoying the warm water!
The first beach was Tampah Beach and the second (where a lot more was happening) was Selong Belanak Beach...
Selong Belanak Beach is actually a surfing beach... so I discovered when I was getting bashed around by strong waves and jumping to get out of the way from approaching surfers!
A few of us went out for a little boogie in the evening at a little local bar which was a bit of fun!
Lombok was so beautiful! A much less touristy version of Bali. I wish I could have seen more of the island but it leaves an excuse to go back!
